Tiffany & Co. will provide total diamond provenance registration

Tiffany & Co. announced last Wednesday, January 9, that it will start sharing with its customers the provenance of their newly purchased and individually registered diamonds and, by 2020, will share their craft journey. The Diamond Provenance Initiative is made possible by more than two decades of investment in responsible buying and skilled diamond craftsmanship.

“Diamonds, formed three billion years ago and brought to the surface of the earth by a miracle of nature, are symbols of the most important moments in our lives. Tiffany diamonds should be transparent. Our customers want and deserve to know where their most valuable and appreciated diamond jewelry comes from, and the process by which it has passed, “said Alessandro Bogliolo, CEO of Tiffany & Co.

By tracking each of its individually registered diamonds (from 0.18 carat) with a unique, laser engraved and invisible “T & Co” serial number with the naked eye, Tiffany will provide customers with diamond-specific purchase geographic information . In addition to being sure that diamonds are free from conflict, Tiffany believes that knowing the provenance is essential to ensure that your diamonds are among the most responsible buying stones in the world.

Tiffany & Co. has committed to the complete transparency of geographic information of all newly purchased and individually registered diamonds and will not purchase diamonds of unknown provenance (even with the guarantee of responsible purchases) from now on.
