Research indicates change in travel habits among Brazilians

More than a particular experience of each person or family, travel is also a cultural manifestation and reflects much of the landscape of society in each moment. A study by the Ministry of Tourism revealed, for example, that Brazilians are traveling more. From 2016 to 2017, there was a 15% increase in the number of people traveling.

Currently, it is estimated that 60 million citizens travel around the country. In addition, the preference for national destinations also increased: a Booking survey conducted in 31 countries showed that in 2018, Brazilians were the seventh most traveled within their own country and for more than five days.

Other travel habits have also changed. Maria de Lourdes Vieira dos Santos has been working in the tourism sector for 11 years and says she realizes that the experience of travel is being demystified. “I notice that people are losing their ‘fear’ of exploring new destinations, because they can access more information about their destination. Barriers such as language, distance or value are increasingly on the side”.

Among the changes in travel habits among Brazilians is the preference for national destinations, such as the city of Campos de Jordão, a reference in domestic tourism in the country

In today’s lifestyle, travel is not a superfluous item but a priority. Even the expert reveals that even in times of crisis the demand for this experience does not suffer a big drop. “People adjust the trip a little in times of financial instability, reducing the duration, for example, but without letting go! Many families of different purchasing power are programming to meet new horizons, ”he comments.

What has also changed over time is what people value most when they are planning a trip. “Until a while ago, travelers prioritized comfort and status. Today, I realize that the focus is on the experience that fate can provide, contact with a different culture and customs. Therefore, it is common to give up a high standard accommodation, for example, or the search for air tickets on sale, even if they have to face stops”.
