OMEGA watches are featured in the movie “The First Man”

Last Thursday, October 18, the movie The First Man, which tells the true story of astronaut Neil Armstrong in the run-up to the historic Apollo 11 flight, hit theaters. Directed by Damien Chazelle, who had conquered the public and critics with the musical La La Land, and starring Ryan Gosling, the production should delight all those in love with space and also those who enjoy a good story.

With an impeccable era reconstitution that incorporates in the narrative the elements that characterized the 1960s, one of the special details of the film is the OMEGA Speedmaster ST 105.003 watch, produced by traditional Swiss watchmaking. The model was used by the astronaut during his first American space walk on June 3, 1965.

OMEGA has a great legacy within the space exploration, and the film crew has put the brand watches on the wrists of the Apollo astronauts just as it did in history. Within its space program, in 1964, NASA went in search of a clock that could qualify for all the manned missions. Many brands have submitted models for endurance tests, but only the OMEGA Speedmaster has survived.

From that moment on, OMEGA was the only watch supplier for the NASA Space Flight Human Program. Its use in space has extended through the Mercury missions and the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab and Apollo-Soyuz programs. And, of course, as part of this story, OMEGA Speedmaster became the first watch used on the Moon in 1969 during the Apollo mission. The Speedmaster watch is in use for spaceflight to date and helps keep track of time on the International Space Station. 11. For the production of The First Man, OMEGA provided models of the Speedmaster and other watches of the time.
