That Antonio is one of the most beloved Brazilian artists, many people are sure. What may not be known is that the actor has one of the most representative careers of national cinema having participated in the most important movements of the seventh Brazilian art.

To rescue the actor’s life story and artistic career, his daughter Camila Pitanga joined director Beto Brant in the production of the film Pitanga, a documentary that reproduces the political, cultural and social participation of Antônio Pitanga in the Brazilian scene.

To tell this story, the directors had the participation of some of the most influential Brazilian cultural creators of the last decades. Among the personalities that appear in the film are Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Joel Zito Araújo, Chico Buarque, Paulinho da Viola, Othon Bastos, Zé Celso Martinez Corrêa, Ziraldo, Zezé Motta, Cacá Diegues and the former governor of Rio de Janeiro Benedita Da Silva.

According to the actor himself in an interview recently published in the press, what charmed him most about the project was the novelty. “I was surprised to see this project ready and I confess that I am more and more in love with this Pitanga. It is a film that tells the story of a family, and that speaks of a Brazilian cinema that brings the issue of affirmation, human rights, women, the racial issue. It was very interesting and a great joy to do this review not only of my career, but of a piece of the history of Brazil itself, “said the actor.

Antônio Pitanga was present at the launch of Manu Berger’s book in Rio de Janeiro.
